Meaningful Collaboration

Ideally,  teachers are meeting to plan collaboratively on a regular basis to track progress and determine areas of focus, connection, language needs.

Promotion of Collaborative Units

Plan together & reflect together
Give up some of your free time
Link class lessons with specialist lessons
Use a common language
Share equipment
Share assessment
Share success (and "near" successes)

A Whole School Approach

Negotiation, teamwork and open-mindedness are necessary for effective collaboration and integration across the curriculum. Once the POI has matured and developed to the desired level (i.e. all specialists have authentic integration planned that meet the scheduling and prescribed needs of the school) changes are still possible but need to more carefully considered.

Integrating across the subject areas (Transdisciplinary)

Connections that have been made should also be visually obvious. The  same lannguage is represented physicall and in the discourse of all classes. Students and teachers have a  shared language.

Literature

During daily book readings collaboratively fill in a chart noting what characters  go through changes andhow these changes may lead to new opportunities.

Social Studies

Explorers and exploration and the changes and new opportunities that come about as a result of  ther efforts.

Refugees and forced migration.

PSPE

Mapping physical & emotionaljourneys.

ESL

Students work on deconstructing the Central Idea. Translation into Mother Tongue.

Students create our own stories that demonstrate change.

ESL learners are just as capable of understanding the big ideas and concepts. Language support should not be just about the langauage but always about these enduring understandings.

PE

Track the journeys of famous athletes. How does physical strength and skill development lead to new opportunities and challenges.

Music, Art, ICT...

The better connected the greater the opportunity for learning.
